Japan Relief Efforts: How to Help

March 18, 2011

Last Friday (March 11),  an earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0 (originally 8.8-8.9) and a tsunami struck northeastern Japan; over 9,500 people were killed, and thousands more were reported missing. Nuclear power plants were also shut down in the country. Many residential areas affected by the earthquake were without power.

This earthquake is one of the worst earthquakes to have occurred since 1900. Brand companies and other organizations and individuals responded to the disaster by donating or even tweeting on the popular social network, Twitter.

If you’d like to help, you can volunteer at a local organization or donate any amount (usually $5 or more) to organizations like these:

American Red Cross (minimum $10 donation)

The Salvation Army – Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief (minimum $5 donation)

UNICEF

My heart goes out to everyone affected by these horrible disasters. God bless.
